1940s Radio Hour

Reviewed by Nora Gift

(Editor’s Note) Nora Gift is a magical gift all to herself, a gift I wish everyone could experience. A 23-year-old Down Syndrome young lady, she provides an opportunity to see the world through fresh eyes. She has written previous reviews, and her sister, Emma is Colorado Backstage’s permanent reviewer for Littleton High School. Nora has taken dance from Debbie Stark at Dance Kalidescope for over four years. Currently she warms up with the Elite High School Performing Dance Group and assists Debbie with a class of younger girls. She participates in Junior Olympics in ice-skating and gymnastics. Twice a week she works at a theater taking tickets and handing out popcorn. Besides Emma, she lives with her Mom and Dad, Marsha and Andy, her younger brother, Joseph, a priceless Black Lab, Jack, and a rambunctious black cat, Molly. For her review, I have added the names of the actors and their characters in parenthesis. -ÐHolly

1940s Radio Hour
The cast of 1940s Radio Hour. at Boulder’s Dinner Theatre.

I am doing a review on the play called The1940’S Radio Hour.

I like the movements. And I like when it snows outside. I also like when the boy runs to step off the stage. And I really like when the man puts his coat on. I also like the light settings. When he (Wayne Kennedy as Pops Bailey) answers the phone all the time, it is funny. I like when they are setting their chairs. I like when they are singing. Shelly’s (Shelly Cox-Robie as Ann Collier) voice is beautiful. Wayne sings really well at the beginning of the second act. When the other ladies sing together it was terrific, and I like Matt (Matt LaFontaine as Wally) when he shook his hands funny. I like when they are turning. They’re great. The band is great. Brandon (Brandon Dill as BJ Gibson) has a wonderful voice. I like the dances too. I love the ending because they have wonderful voices. Brian Norber plays Johnny Cantone and his voice and his smiles are astonishing.

This play made me feel so happy, it also made me feel really silly, and it even made me feel excited sometimes. My friends and I enjoyed ourselves. I hope a lot of people see this play.
